  • 2 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
  • 1 Turkish or 1/2 California bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder (preferably Madras)
  • 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar (optional)
  • 1 (13 1/2- to 15-oz) can unsweetened coconut milk (not low-fat)
