Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped

For the cream cheese frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 stick (6 tablespoons) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

For the glaze

  • 6 oz fine-quality bittersweet chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons instant espresso powder dissolved in 1 tablespoon boiling water
