Baked Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Lemon Basil Cream Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. small fresh Brussels sprouts, cut in half lengthwise, and tough outer leaves removed
  • 4 strips smoked bacon, diced
  • 1 large shallot, minced (about 2 tbsp.)
  • 1 pint (2 cups) heavy whipping cream (do not substitute milk or half & half, as it will curdle when boiled)
  • Zest of 1 lemon, minced
  • 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup chopped fresh basil
  • Salt and fresh ground pepper
  • Bread crumbs (below)
  • Butter
  • *1 cup fresh breadcrumbs mixed with:
  • 1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese and fresh ground pepper
  • 2 tbsp. chilled unsalted butter ? cut into small pieces
