Bolognese Meat Sauce With Pasta

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons  finely chopped pancetta or bacon (optional)
  • 12 ounces  extra-lean ground beef
  • 2 14 1/2-ounce  cans low-sodium tomatoes, undrained and cut up
  • 1 cup  chopped onion
  • 3/4 cup  dry lentils
  • 1/4 cup  finely chopped carrot
  • 1/4 cup  finely chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup  snipped fresh parsley
  • 1/3 of a 6-ounce  can tomato paste (1/4 cup)
  • 1 teaspoon  instant beef bouillon granules
  • 1 cup  water
  • 1/2 cup  dry white wine or beef broth
  • 12 ounces  packaged dried pasta, such as penne, spaghetti, or cavatelli
  • 1/3 cup  evaporated fat-free milk
  •   Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  •   Celery leaves (optional)
