- 4-1 / 2 to 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 / 4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 envelopes FLEISCHMANNâS RapidRise yeast
- 1-1 / 2 teaspoons salt
- 1-1 / 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 3 / 4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 cup water
- 2 / 3 cup canned pumpkin
- 1 / 4 cup + 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 egg yolk, reserve egg white
- 4 raisins
- wheat germ or unprocessed bran (*See note below)
- powdered sugar glaze (optional)
- 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 to 2 tablespoons milk
- *Note
- The wheat germ is for decoration only. I use a cup of finely chopped nuts instead of the wheat germ. It adds a nice crunch to the finished bread.
