• 6oz hot turkey italian sausage
• 2c onion, chopped
• 1c green bell pepper, chopped
• 8 garlic cloves, minced
• 1# ground sirloin
• 1 jalapeno pepper, chopped, that's right, seeds and all
• 2T chili powder
• 2T brown sugar
• 1T ground cumin
• 3T tomato paste
• 1t dried oregano
• 1/2t freshly ground black pepper
• 1/4t salt
• 2 bay leaves
• 1 1/4c merlot or other fruity red wine
• 2 (28 oz) cans whole tomatoes, undrained and coarsely chopped
• 2 (15 oz) cans kidney beans, drained
• 1/2c (2 oz) reduced-fat sharp cheddar cheese
