Ingredients

  • 2 cups lentils
  • Cold water
  • 1 1/3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons sesame or soy oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 3 onions, chopped
  • 1 large bunch celery, chopped
  • cup celery leaves, chopped
  • 3 carrots, thickly sliced
  • ½ cup brown rice
  • 6 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 2 quarts water or vegetable stock
  • 2 teaspoons salt and ½ teaspoon
  • pepper
  • 2 tablespoons miso (soybean paste)
  • lemon slices
