  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 4 to 4-1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract

  • 1 cup sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons nut liqueur, such as Pistacha, Amaretto, Frangelico or Nocino
