Authentic Frijoles Recipe


  • 2 Cups pinto beans
  • 12 Cups of water
  • ham hock, if not available, Grease from 1 package of bacon
  • 3-4 Bay leafs
  • Several Dry hot red chili peppers or pequin peppers
  • 1 Tablespoon white vinegar
  • 2-4 Tablespoons of chili powder
  • 1 Tablespoon oregano
  • 1 Tablespoon of black pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 5-6 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • few more peppers if desired
  • 1 Teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt


Making Authentic Frijoles Is A Different Experience. They Take A Long Time To Make But They Are A Worthwhile En-devour. Serve These With My Spanish Rice And Any Mexican Dish And You Will Have A New Family Favorite. Cheers, -Brian S. Crist II
