- 6 1/2 cups dried mixed beans, soaked overnight
- 3 bay leaves
- 4 sprigs thyme
- 2 vegetable bouillon cubes
- water to cover
- 5 lbs potatoes, peeled and roughly chopped
- 3/4 cup chili sauce (like Heinz, NOT hot sauce!)
- 4 cups tomato sauce
- 1 (6-oz) can tomato paste
- 2 (19-oz) cans small red Mexican beans, drained
- 1 (19-oz) can kidney beans, drained
- 1 cup bulgur wheat
- 1 cup dry red lentils
- 3/4 cup wild rice
- 3 cups brown rice
- salt to taste
