  • 3/4 - 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch , plus one teaspoon cornstarch
  • pinch table salt
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 1 cinnamon stick (3-inch)
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
