For the topping:
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon cream and a pinch ground cinnamon
- 1 small or 1/2 medium firm, tart apple (about 6-ounce in weight)
- 1 2/3 cups blackberries
- 1/2 lemon, zested
- 1/3 cup self-rising flour
- 2 tablespoons ground almonds
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Scant 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, diced
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons Demerara, or granulated brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons sliced almonds
