Ingredients

  1. 1 cup walnut halves (4 ounces)
  2. 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  3. 2 pounds medium asparagus
  4. 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  5. 1 1/2 tablespoons sherry vinegar
  6. 1 large scallion, white and light green part only, minced
  7. 1 tablespoon chopped tarragon
  8. 1 tablespoon chopped mint
  9. Salt and freshly ground pepper
  10. 4 ounces goat cheese, such as Bcheron, rind removed and cheese crumbled
