Apple and Walnut Cream Tart

Ingredients

PASTRY

  5. 1/4 cup cold vegetable shortening
  6. 3 tablespoons ice water

FILLING

  1. I cup walnuts (about 3 ounces)
  2. 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  3. 1/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
  4. 1 large egg
  5. 1 tablespoon dark rum
  6. 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  7. 3 large Granny Smith apples
  8. 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  9. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  10. 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
  11. 2 tablespoons apple jelly or apricot jam
