Maple-Pear Kuchen

  2. Finely grated zest and juice of 1 lemon
  3. 1 cup pure maple syrup
  4. 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  5. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  6. 10 tablespoons unsalted butter (5 ounces), 4 tablespoons melted
  7. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  8. 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
  9. 1/2 teaspoon pure almond extract
  10. 1 large egg
  11. 1/3 cup milk
  12. 1/2 cup dried sour cherries (3 ounces)
  13. 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
