- 3 tablespoons chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 1/2 pounds plums (about 5 large), halved, pitted, cut into 1/2-inch-thick wedges
- 1 large egg beaten with 2 teaspoons water (for glaze)
