4th Of July Bbq Ideas!

Ingredients

At most events I do, I usually always serve a signature drink, which helps keep the cost down and the conversation up! Since it is summer, it would be fun to serve what I call the "Blueberry Tart" which is simply Blueberry Vodka, Sour Mix, and Club Soda. Fill an ice tea glass with ice, pour the contents into the glass, and garnish with a bamboo skewer of blueberries! Don't drink or do you have kids attending the event? You can come up with a non-alcoholic specialty cocktail with a bit of seltzer for a fun fizz! Another fun drink to make for your outdoor BBQ is something I call "Key Lime Pie Martini." All it takes is vanilla Vodka, Key Lime Juice, and simple syrup! Pour all of these ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled glass that has a rim of crushed graham crackers! For even more fun, make blue and red jello shots with dollop of whipped cream on top! They are super easy and fun to make! All you have to do is buy small plastic glasses, coat them with a thin layer of olive oil, and pour your jello mixture into them. Put in the refrigerator (not freezer!) for about 4 hours and they are ready to serve! Again, staying consistent with your red, white, and blue theme!

But what about the guys? These drinks not manly enough? Put a little spin on things and do B.Y.O.B. (bring your own beer!) But not just any beer, make things exciting and have your guests bring their favorite non traditional beer, not Coors or Budweiser, but have them bring some unique micro-brews. You would be surprised how many different beers there are and it will give something for the guys to bond over!

As I mentioned above, guests are always asking "What can I do?" "Is there anything I can bring?" To avoid overlapping items, assign your guests something in particular. Making Sangria? Have a guest bring a bottle or two of cheap wine to contribute to the Sangria! Need ice or plastic utensils or paper plates? Assign these items to guests to avoid having an overflow of food and this also cuts down your cost as well! Worried about having too many leftovers? Go to the store any buy Chinese Takeout boxes to fill with your guests favorite foods of the night to send home with them as a little party favor! You can also buy gift bags that you can use for unopened bottles of beer and wine that they can take home as well!

What about decor? For affordable and easy entertaining, I like to start off with what I call, "shopping at home." I love to incorporate items that are easy to find around the house; often using these items again and again while putting a new twist each time I use them. So, start with shopping around your kitchen, cupboards, garage, attic, or wherever in your house that you store items. For example, maybe you have a glass vase that you put Christmas ornaments in during the holidays as decorations. You could use that same vase, fill it with sand and place a large American Flag in it. This could be used as a centerpiece. Have any old tin or terra cotta buckets? Fill them with play sand and place miniature American flags in them. Have any left over candles? Place these candles around your centerpieces to add a little more flare. Just use your imagination and run with it! You will be surprised about all of the things that you have in your home that you will be able to use! For more decorations, use fresh flowers that you have picked from your garden! It is easy, and at no cost to you! You also get to show off the beautiful work you have put into growing your garden!

Worried about what the messy BBQ and ribs will do to your nice table cloths? Just go to the store and by inexpensive picnic table cloths (this will remain consistent with your red, white, and blue theme) or simply cut garbage bags so that they cover the table, then cover the bags with sheets of your daily newspaper. This also makes cleaning up easy - just roll everything up in the paper and toss it into a trash bag! Instead of newspaper you could use white butcher paper and provide crayons to keep the kids busy!

For when the night falls and the fireworks are over, create your own fireworks show with hand held sparklers! A great way to end the night!

The great thing about a 4th of July BBQ is that there are endless things that you can do! You can take these ideas as far as you want, for as many people you want, and are kid friendly! Further, all of these ideas are relatively inexpensive and incorporating your guests will help keep the costs down! Everybody usually always loves to bring something, and that can be their contribution! I make it my job to search and hunt for items and ideas that work for the everyday family with the everyday budget and today this is more important than ever. We all want to have a little fun and we should be able to enjoy life to its fullest! After all life is a party!
