Ingredients

• 12 ounces whole wheat or white spaghetti noodles
• 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, split
• 1 clove garlic, peeled and smashed
• 1 pound lean ground beef or bison
• 1 medium onion, chopped
• 1 teaspoon dried basil
• 1 teaspoon dried oregano
• 1 teaspoon dried thyme
• 1/4 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes (more if you like it hot!)
• 28 ounce can (or box of Pomi) chopped tomatoes
• 1 bay leaf
• 1 teaspoon brown sugar (optional)
• freshly grated Parmesan cheese to serve (optional)
