Ingredients

  • 2 cups apple juice
  • 1/2 cup apple brandy, applejack or apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 pound gala apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch wedges (about three medium apples)
  • 3/4 pound Rome beauty, golden delicious, or Jonathan apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch wedges
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons snipped fresh sage; 1/4 tsp. dried sage, crushed; or 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 8 - 10 tablespoons cold water
  • 1/3 cup dairy sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • Milk
