Wine & Cheese Party- Your Tasty Menu

Ingredients

    Preparation: Plan your menu.

Plan foods that will taste great together.

With some great advice form: Karen MacNeil's "Shortcut Guide to Wine-and-Food Pairing", here is a basic guideline for choosing foods that will compliment the other foods that are being served.

Light flavors of chicken, fish, pork, turkey and veal goes well with fresh vegetables, mild, mellow semi soft cheeses like Brie, Camembert, white wines, Chardonay, Chianti, Savignon Blanc, full Cabernets and sparkling wines.

Bold, exotic dishes, citrus chicken, fish, game birds and pork pair well with summer vegetables, highly aromatic cheese like pungent Blue Cheese, Gouda and the medium bodied, intense flavor of Alsace Riesling, the world's most food-flexible wine.

Robust flavors of beef, chicken, game birds, lamb, liver, rabbit, squab, turkey and veal goes well with roasted potatoes, root vegetables, the harder, stronger flavored cheeses like Gruyere, aged cheddar cheese and medium bodied red wines like Pinot Noir and Perrin Reserve Cotes du Rhone.

Roasted beef, grilled steak, duck, lamb and venison pairs well with grilled summer vegetables, cheeses like Camembert, Gouda and full bodied red wines like Merlot and Fife Vineyards Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

    Cheese & Wine Pairings
Asiago- Hard cheeses like Asiago, Parmesan taste great with Riesling, Sangiovese, sherry and sparkling wines.

Pungent Blue Cheese- Milk white marbled cheese with veins of blue-green mold. This tangy piquant flavored cheese pairs well with Riesling, Gewurztraminer, late-harvest Riesling and sparkling wines such as Brut.

Sharp Cheddar- Semi-hard cheeses like sharp cheddar pair well with late-harvest Gewurztraminer, Merlot, Grenache and Zifandel.

Goat Cheese- Soft young cheeses pair well with simple young wines like Sauvignon Blanc and Sancerre.

Limburger and Taleggio Cheese- Washed-rind cheeses like Limburger taste terrific with light fruity wines like Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir and Cream Sherry.
