- 3 pounds mixed Gala and Granny Smith apples (about 6 small apples), peeled, cored and cut into 1/2-inch thick wedges
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten with a fork
- 2 tablespoons coarse sanding sugar
