Ingredients

  • 3 -1/2-lb thin-cut beef brisket, excess fat trimmed
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 2 medium onions, halved and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 3 Tbsp each balsamic vinegar and honey
  • 1/2 tsp each ground cloves, cinnamon and ginger
  • 2 lb sweet potatoes, peeled, cut in 1-1/-in. chunks
  • 1 cup each pitted dried plums (prunes) and apricots
