Ingredients

  • 1 can (21 oz) apple pie filling or topping
  • 1 loaf (about 1 lb) challah bread, cut in sixteen 1/2-in.-thick slices
  • 2 boxes (2 3/4 or 3 oz each) cook & serve vanilla pudding and pie filling
  • 1 qt (4 cups) whole milk
  • 2 Tbsp lemon zest
  • 3/4 cup Goldens and Cherries (mix of golden raisins and dried cherries from a 6-oz pouch) or 3/4 cup golden raisins
  • confectioners' sugar
  • 1 Tbsp rum
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup melted vanilla ice cream
