Apple-garlic Loaves


  • 3 medium  Granny Smith apples (about 1 lb.), cored
  • 1 tablespoon  butter
  • 4 large cloves  garlic, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 cup  quick-cooking or regular rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup  packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon  lemon juice
  • 2 20-ounces loaves  purchased ciabatta bread or other crusty bread
  • 3 tablespoons  butter, melted
